The First Meeting

Take the time to form a good bond with others at the first meeting. It helps the team work well if you plan with care. Here are some things to do at the first meeting. We will tell you below why they are important.

To Do List

  • Pick a meeting place that works for everyone.
  • Be on time or a bit early.
  • Welcome people with a smile.
  • Be a good host.
  • Spend time getting to know each other.
  • Listen carefully, so you understand what is important to others.
  • Decide together what you will do if you disagree, and how you will make decisions.
  • Decide together what your goal will be, so you all work towards the same one.
  • Get everyone's ideas. Do not guess what others think.
  • Make an action plan and decide how you will communicate with each other.
    • Decide together who will do what actions and by what date.
    • Decide how you will stay in touch between meetings so everyone knows what has been done or not done.
  • Write a short outline of the plan and the next steps for all team members to take with them. By the end of the meeting, everyone needs to have the same picture of the project in their heads.
  • Find out if the first meeting went well. Are people happy with the decisions and how they were made?
  • Thank people for coming and say how much you look forward to working with them.
