Us and Them
Give each person 2 copies of a paper with lots of pairs of opposite words that can be used to say what people are like and "it depends" on each line. The words might be things like "serious" and "fun-loving." Have people put their name at the top of one page and the name of someone they know well at the top of the other page.
Ask people to look at each pair of words and mark the one that is most like them. If they think that how they are depends on where they are and what is happening, they should mark "it depends." Give an answer for each pair of words. Ask them to do the same on the other page for the person they know well.
Have people look at how often they marked "it depends" on the two pages. People will often mark "it depends" for themselves, but mark one of the opposite words for the person they think they know well. It shows the team members think they have less power over what happens to them, and others have more power over what happens to them.
You can use this to start talking about how people see others as having more control and power than they have.
